Ginger Hooven – U.S.
Certified Yoga Therapist (IAYT), Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner (NAMA), E-RYT 500 (Yoga Alliance).
Long term resident, Ginger Hooven, founded Antigua’s first yoga studio, yogAntigua, in 2000. She completed a YTT700 with Georg Feuerstein in 2003. Her study with master yogi, Baba Hari Dass, began in 2004 and continued over the next ten years as she joined the teacher training team at Mount Madonna Center/Institute in Northern California where she is currently Chair of the School of Yoga and is Program Director for the Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy certification. She travels back to California several times a year to teach.
Ginger enjoys teaching all the limbs of yoga, not only asana (postures). She especially loves threading the principles of both yoga and Ayurveda throughout her classes. Her knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology (both gross & subtle) informs her teaching, creating a safe environment in which to explore the practices. Ginger’s specialty is therapeutic yoga, one-in-one, to design a practice suited to the individual at her/his particular moment in time. She leads local courses and workshops like Introduction to Ayurveda, Ayurvedic Cooking, Women in Menopause, Applying Ayurveda to Asana and more. She opened Casa San Juan, a small retreat center, in 2016 as a place for seekers and teachers alike.
What Ginger enjoys most about teaching is witnessing the student discover her/his own practice and take the joy of yoga off the mat and into the world.
